Sunday Night Suds - Samuel Adams Blueberry Hill Lager

This week's Sunday Night Suds looks at Samuel Adams Blueberry Hill Lager.

This year there is a new option for those looking to get their fix of Blueberry infused kosher beers. Following on the heels of last year's very successful introduction by Saranac brewery of its Blueberry Blonde Ale (reviewed here - http://kosherbeers.blogspot.com/2012/04/sunday-night-suds-saranac-blueberry.html), Samuel Adams has entered the market with its first blueberry beer - the Blueberry Hill Lager.

The Samuel Adams Blueberry Hill Lager is available in the Samuel Adams Beers of Summer Six Pack which also contains: last year's new summer seasonals - Porch Rocker and Belgian Session; the flagship Boston Lager; old favorite Summer Ale (reviewed here - http://kosherbeers.blogspot.com/2008/07/sunday-night-suds-sam-adams-summer-ale.html) and one more new beer for Summer 2013 - Little White Rye.

Soon after the Beers of Summer Box hit the shelves, I started receiving email which inquired as to whether the new beers are under kosher supervision. I contacted the Star-K and received an email in response the very next day with the green light for the new 2013 additions to the Beers of Summer (all the older varieties were already on the January 2013 LOC available on the Star-K website). I immediately (well, later that day) went down to my favorite beer store - the Beverage Barn on Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park to look for the brews and they had not even put them out on the floor for sale. But they were nice enough to pull a box for me from the pallet in the back and I was set for new beer for Shabbos.

The Blueberry Hill Lager poured a light yellow with an immediate smack of blueberry on the first sip. The blueberry was not artificial or heavy and the beer was a pleasant apertif between the fish and main courses of our Shabbos lunch. I would not attempt to pair this with charred meats or heavy stews, but it would go well with Shavuos type dishes, or even blueberry pancakes. Mrs KB approves of the beer too, so I may have to go out and try to find more of this to have on the chag in about 30 days.

The Samuel Adams Blueberry Hill Lager is under the Kosher Supervision of the Star-K and has a Star-K certification mark on the label. To see what the experts on Beer Advocate think about this brew, please follow this link - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/84501
